Methodology

How the figures are chosen

TravelEssentials compiles each country card automatically from named open sources, once a month. Templates, practical facts and flagged changes are reviewed by a person. Nothing on the site is written by AI.

Rules every figure follows

Every figure shows its source, its reference year and the date we checked it. A figure without all three is not shown.

We never fill gaps with estimates of our own. Missing data reads “Not available”. Estimates published by a source (prices, language shares, modelled unemployment) carry an “estimate” label.

Practical facts

Plug types, voltage, frequency, driving side and emergency numbers are checked by a person against official sources (utilities, ministries, police and emergency services) before a card is published, and re-checked every six months.

Travel advice is linked, never summarised: each link opens the government's live page. We show no risk levels, because a monthly release could show an outdated level.

Money and time

The converter uses the European Central Bank reference rate of the release date: good for budgeting, not for trading. Time differences are computed in your browser from the IANA time zones and your device's clock.

Comparisons and rankings

Rankings cover the countries covered so far, one source per series. Where a country's latest year differs, the table says so. See all sources.
